The Day I Learned Fabric Blends Aren't Just Numbers on a Spec Sheet

  9. Build in a buffer—order 10-15% extra to cover test yardage and potential waste.
  10. Ask about the finish—is it scoured? Heat-set? Those affect shrinkage and hand feel.
  11. Double-check the care label—some mills print generic instructions that don't match the actual fabric.
  12. Trust your gut—if something feels off about the supplier's responsiveness, it probably is.

Final Thought: Prevention Is Cheaper Than Cure

I spent $3,200 learning that lesson. But now I've got a system that catches 9 out of 10 potential issues before they become problems. The 5 minutes I spend checking the box on #1 through #4 has saved me hundreds of hours of firefighting.

Bottom line: If you're ordering 95/5 polyester spandex for high-use garments, test it hard before you commit. And if you can, go with 93/7—the extra 2% elastane makes a world of difference in longevity.
